Gear Crush: Top 3 Burton Layering Pieces for Women

Image 9 - Version 2It’s 18 degrees and snowing today– a good afternoon for my first gear crush post! Vermont is Burton land. We live in a town where Shawn White’s coach once taught Stowe kids how to ride. Local legend Jake Burton Carpenter comes into the schools to deliver inspiring talks about snowboarding and taking responsible risks. My kids aspire to nothing higher than being Burton sponsored riders someday. And, of course, the factory store is just a short jaunt up the highway (I have been known to enjoy shopping!). The boys won’t wear anything but Burton. As a skier, I’m a little more flexible, but there are a few pieces of Burton gear that I absolutely LOVE.

1. The Women’s Premium Tank – I wear this tank pretty much all winter. It’s warm, but not bulky and has enough length and stretch that I never have to pull it down or tuck it in. It’s quick drying and has built-in support. It’s my go-to first layer for alpine or cross country skiing, hiking, or sledding with the kids.

2. Burton Expedition Weight First Layer – These micro-fleece base layer pieces have just enough stretch to keep the fleece from getting scrunched up. They are soooo warm and cozy, but not thick and bulky, and the waist on the pants feels more like a yoga pant than typical first layer bottoms.

3. My real love affair though is with the Burton AK Snow pants. I coveted these pants for quite a while before throwing down for them, but they are so worth it.  The Gore-Tex fabric is super soft and comfortable and, since it’s Gore-Tex, completely waterproof. They come with a lifetime guarantee too, so you might want to skip the trendy pattern for something you won’t get tired of next year.

With President’s week right around the corner, there are bound to be some good sales around. Hmmm…maybe time for another set of Expedition’s for Valentine’s Day? Happy shopping!
